On November 16th, Nichole Barbe, Director of Graduate Admissions at Columbia University's the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, and Chen Jiang, Assistant Director of International Graduate Services at Columbia University, visited our Institute and engaged in in-depth discussions with our senior students.
Dean of SWUFE-UD Institute of Data Science at SWUFE, YANG Shilei, and ZHAO Xiaoyu from the Global Engagement Office at the Institute welcomed the visiting team. Dean YANG began by introducing the Institute's development history, educational features, and the employment and further education status of its first graduating class. It was particularly noted that among the Class of 2024 of our Institute, 8 were admitted to Columbia University, with 4 choosing to pursue their studies there. Nichole Barbe expressed gratitude for the excellent students cultivated by our Institute and noted that this was the first time in recent years they had admitted students from our University. Both sides had a detailed discussion on Institute curriculum settings, student background enhancement, and the graduate program application process.
During the panel discussion with our Institute’s senior students, the admissions team provided feedback on the review of the students’ application materials, offering advice on application components such as English proficiency, quantitative background, computer skills, work experience, recommendation letters, and research capabilities. The team also outlined the support provided by Columbia University, including English language learning, employment services, and Curricular Practical Training (CPT).
This exchange provided our students with valuable face-to-face guidance, giving them a clearer understanding of campus life, academic programs, and the application process at the Ivy League university. Our Institute looks forward to more students successfully unlocking opportunities to their dream schools and continuing their studies and research in order to lay a solid foundation for future development.
